Fdp: government must make more speed with digitalization

FDP parliamentary group vice chairman Frank Sitta has called on the federal government to pick up the pace in digitizing the country and finally set up a digital ministry. Looking ahead to this Wednesday’s meeting of the Digital Council, Sitta told Deutsche Presse-Agentur: "The Corona crisis has made it abundantly clear what potential lies in the digitization of our country and how important a good digital infrastructure is today. Unfortunately, the federal government has slept through the digital revolution for years."

Vouchers and hatch closure auction

The grand coalition must significantly increase the future portion of the stimulus package, which is estimated at around 50 billion euros: "We need a digital ministry as a central coordinating body and more investment in digital infrastructure and management", said Sitta. He reiterated the FDP’s call for a massive acceleration of fiber-optic expansion through low-bureaucracy gigabit vouchers for households and businesses. With such vouchers for gigabit connections, small and medium-sized enterprises as well as local residents are to be given the opportunity to have their own connection upgraded. The network operator would take over the expansion and be paid the equivalent value of the voucher, according to the FDP’s idea.

Patchday: critical malicious code leak in android 8.0 to 11

Attackers were able to attack Android devices and, after successful attacks, export malicious code to smartphones and tablets, among other things. Now Google and other Android device manufacturers (see box to the right of this message) have released collected security updates for Android 8.0 to 11 published.

In a warning message Google classifies a "critical" gap (CVE-2020-0449) as particularly dangerous. According to the description, an attacker in the vicinity of a vulnerable device could execute their own code on devices by sending an unspecified crafted transmission. If this succeeds, devices are usually considered to be fully compromised.

Us military sends cyber specialists to germany

The new U.S. administration is reversing the policy of its predecessor and is not withdrawing soldiers from Germany, but wants to send new ones. The 500 new U.S. soldiers are expected to contribute their expertise in cyberspace and help improve electronic warfare in Europe starting next fall, new U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin during his inaugural visit to Berlin.

What specific qualifications the 500 new U.S. soldiers will bring with them has not yet been revealed. The US government sees a stronger presence as necessary, among other things, because of Russia’s actions in Georgia and its annexation of Crimea, as well as Russia’s prere on Ukraine and other neighboring countries. Also, the U.S. is concerned about Russia increasing cyberattacks in Europe, as well as in Germany. Germany is the key to respond to these provocations, he said.

Mechrevo code 01: notebook with ryzen 7 4800h and huge battery

The Chinese manufacturer Mechrevo shows the first notebook that comes with a Ryzen 4000H combination processor without an additional graphics chip. In the model named Code 01, the integrated graphics unit is allowed to show its strengths with a configured Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 54 watts. Normally, manufacturers combine H-processors with a dedicated graphics chip, like Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. On the other hand, the 15 watt TDP limits the clock rates of flat notebooks with Ryzen 4000U.

Without an additional GPU, the notebook is easier to cool, and there is also plenty of room for the battery – with 91 watt hours, the latter falls short according to the overview in the forum of Notebook Review This is a huge amount for a device of this type. 16 GBytes of dual-channel DDR4-3200 RAM make the notebook fit not only for working, but also for gaming (with limitations in graphics settings).

Mecklenburg-western pomerania: warning of sandstorms

Nine years after the mass accident with eight fatalities on the A19, the environmental organization BUND and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Minister for Agriculture and the Environment Till Backhaus (SPD) are still warning of the dangers of soil compaction and wind erosion. "More than half of the soil is heavily compacted," said BUND agricultural expert Burkhard Roloff on Tuesday (7. April 2020). Causes, he said, are too heavy agricultural vehicles, the lack of humus and low biodiversity in the soil. Aeration, water absorption and rootability of the soil are low, he said.

Problem: soil compaction

According to Roloff, compacted soil can only be prepared for sowing at great expense – for example, by plowing or cultivating and breaking up the soil to create a fine seedbed. This "pulverization" creates soil components that the wind can whirl up and transport for kilometers. This is one of the reasons for the sandstorm and the pile-up on 8 September. April 2011 had been south of Rostock.

Online workshop: owasp top 10 - avoiding security risks for web applications

It is well known that web applications are particularly exposed and therefore more vulnerable to attacks than other applications. For years, the Open Web Application Security Project has been working to raise awareness of security in web application development. Its OWASP top ten describe the ten most common security risks in web applications and are referenced in many security standards.

In the two-day online workshop OWASP Top 10: Avoiding Critical Web Application Security Risks, Tobias Glemser, BSI-certified penetration tester and OWASP German Chapter Lead, will explain and demonstrate the OWASP Top 10 and how to assess these risks. Participants learn about the risks as well as countermeasures.

The interactive online workshop will take place on 12. and 13. August in the morning. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and exchange ideas with the speaker and other participants. The number of participants is limited to 20 to ensure interactivity. The workshop is intended for developers, product owners, security managers, architects, and administrators who have a basic understanding of web applications, as well as a basic knowledge of programming and information security.

In the process, however, the companies mostly did not pay their fair share of taxes, according to the head of state. Macron said many burgers no longer accept this behavior. He did not mention the names of companies.
