The amount of tolls abroad varies from country to country. In some countries, tolls are calculated according to kilometers driven and vehicle type.

The calculation of the toll for PKWS in Switzerland and Austria is different. You have to buy a daily, weekly or yearly vignette. However, driving through some tunnels is not yet included there.

When entering the most popular vacation countries of the Germans, the following tolls are due.

Austria

The car toll has been passed by the legislature, but has not yet been introduced. The amount of the toll depends on the size and environmental friendliness of the engine. Freeways and federal roads are subject to tolls.

The annual toll is between 67 euros and a maximum of 130 euros, depending on the motorization. There are also two possible short-term tariffs: A ten-day toll for 2.50 to 25 euros and a two-month toll for 7 to 50 euros.

Domestic drivers do not incur any additional costs as a result of the passenger car tolls. You pay a correspondingly lower vehicle tax.

How to pay the toll?

There are 3 different ways to pay the toll:

  • Cash payment/card payment at the toll stations (depending on the route)
  • Vignette (lump sum for a certain period)
  • Credit card
  • E-vignette (payment via transponder / Telepass)

In what form the toll is collected?

What happens if you are caught without a toll sticker??

Croatia is one of the most popular vacation destinations for Germans. On the way there Austria and Slovenia must be passed through.
