Man drove car for 70 years without a license

A man has driven a car in England without a license or insurance for more than 70 years, according to his own account. According to police, the man, born in 1938, got into a routine check near Nottingham in his Mini One. Papers he could not show. But he claimed to have been behind the wheel since the age of twelve without ever having a driver’s license or insurance.

“Somehow he managed never to be stopped by the police,” the Facebook post, whose authenticity a police spokesman confirmed to Deutsche Presse-Agentur on Friday, went on to say. Fortunately, the man was also never involved in an accident, the statement continued. The control is said to have taken place already on Wednesday.

Police urged motorists not to get behind the wheel without valid papers. The growing number of cameras with automatic license plate recognition makes it increasingly likely to be caught, he said.

Questions and answers around the comment function
“Why does it sometimes take so long for my comment to become visible?”

Our readers comment diligently – day after day hundreds of opinions are received on all kinds of topics. As responsibility for all content on the site rests with the editors, posts are pre-screened. This sometimes takes some time.

“Why was my comment deleted?”

Possibly the contribution was written in a foreign language. We only release comments in the national languages Luxembourgish, German and French. Posts that contain insults, slander or defamation will be deleted immediately. Also, comments that are virtually unreadable or written in capitals due to poor spelling will never see the light of day.

A small damper for the modern certificate believers. Many drive with licenses for decades as if they never took a driving test….

@pastor In Portugal there was also such a case. The old cab driver actually got the driver’s license as a gift. But Germany Luxembourg unthinkable, Middle Ages.

A sure sign that everything works perfectly even without control. The state just wants to keep us under control in the long run.
