Almost every household now has one: Breadmakers have become fashionable. In terms of nutrition, many Germans simply like to have control over the food in their bread. Especially those who have food intolerances often bake their bread themselves.
Breadmaker from Unold
Because if you buy your bread in the supermarket or at the bakery, you can’t be one hundred percent sure what’s in it. Inquiries to the staff are usually answered with an unenthusiastic shrug of the shoulders. Even worse : an employee tells them something wrong. Especially with food intolerances no fun.
But if you have bought your breadmaker, you will need of course a manual for baking bread. To make this easier for you, we have written a step-by-step guide here.
Advantages of a breadmaker compared to an oven
Of course, there are always people who prefer to do everything by hand. Is also nothing against it if you have too much time. Especially those who are at home all day can of course make their own bread and then bake it in the oven. Who does not have quite so much time at the disposal, which has in the bread baking machine simply a giant advantage. The bread machine handles the kneading, rising and baking of white bread, whole wheat bread and mixed breads.
Even more exotic bread varieties, such as mixed bread with raisins and nuts, can be easily made in a good breadmaker. For good devices can independently add all possible ingredients to the dough at the end of the kneading process. For this, these ingredients are put in extra compartments of the bread machine beforehand.
To the breadmaker
But now let’s get started: take a quick look at the manual of your bread machine and see the available functions. After that we can start. It is practical if you have a look at the page with the drawing of the key assignment. Then you will always find the corresponding function from our manual.
Step 1: Set the bread machine& Remove the baking pan
Baking pan in the bread machine
If they use the bread maker for the first time, then be sure to carefully remove all packaging components. Some manufacturers have foils in the baking pan on the surfaces, so that no scratches come into the product. Some customers are very sensitive here. Although, of course, scratches will always occur in daily use.
Remove all foils and take the baking pan, also called bread pan, out of the bread maker. Set the main switch of the machine to on beforehand.
NoteSome devices only need to be connected to the mains and do not have an on/off switch.
Especially when using for the first time, they sometimes need to attach the dough hook. However, if you can already see a kneading hook at the bottom of your bread pan (as in the picture on the left), then that’s already taken care of. If you have this separately in your package, then look in the manual how to mount it. Once the dough hook is in place, we can proceed to step 2.
Step 2: Choose a recipe and put all the ingredients ready
Choosing the right bread recipe: our tips
Almost all manufacturers put their bread maker, usually in the instruction manual, with this device tested bread recipes at. These recipes have the advantage that they produce a delicious bread in any case. The manufacturers have tested these recipes extensively with their automatic bread makers. Of course you can also choose a recipe on one of the numerous internet sites. For this, simply enter search queries on Google, such as:
- Bread recipes for the breadmaker
- or bread recipes for the bread maker and your desired bread (for example, wholemeal bread with raisins) a
So they will come across numerous recipes. It is best to choose recipes that have often received very good reviews.
Our recipe tip for white bread
A recipe that we have tried ourselves. Simply put all the ingredients into the baking machine in the evening and use the programming function. Then you get a delicious white bread in the morning at the desired time. This is still nice and warm and then of course tastes especially good.
Ingredients for 6 people:
- 500 grams of flour
- 300 ml water lukewarm
- 1 packet of dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 15 grams of salt
- 2 tablespoons of canola oil
The preparation in the breadmaker
First of all, please put the yeast into the baking machine. The yeast should be at the very bottom of the bread pan. Be careful not to let the salt come into contact with the yeast before the kneading process begins. First add the flour, sugar and salt to the yeast. Then add the water and the oil.
Now either switch on the baking machine immediately or program it for the morning. In good bread makers you can set the time when the bread should be ready. Then you don’t even have to worry about how long it takes.
Suitable for this: the Unold Backmeister breadmaker (68415) from our product recommendations has this function.
Step 3: Put the ingredients into the baking pan
Depending on the bread recipe, the ingredients are added to the baking pan in different quantities and order. Here’s how we do it with our example recipe just mentioned.
Put the yeast in the baking pan
In our bread recipe, we first put the packet of dry yeast into the breadmaker. For our white bread, this should be at the bottom, so as not to come into contact with the salt.
Add the flour
Flour to bake bread
Now put the 500 g flour into the bread pan and cover the dry yeast completely with it. This is important so that the salt does not come into contact with the yeast before the kneading process.
Add sugar and salt
Now we add a teaspoon of sugar and the 15 g of salt to the flour.
Water and oil
Then pour 300 ml of lukewarm water into the baking pan of the breadmaker. Add the two tablespoons of canola oil.
Now it should be clear how easy it is to bake your own bread with such a baking machine. Any other ingredients can now be added of course. How about some nuts or raisins for example.
Step 4: Put the baking pan into the bread maker
Now put the baking pan in the designated position in the bread maker. Most of the time you just put it from the top into the corresponding tray and sometimes you have to turn it a little bit so that the baking pan locks in place. This is important so that the dough hook also engages in the motor with drive. Then close the lid.
Step 5: Set and program the bread program
Choose the right program
Now most bread machines have different programs that you can select. In our case, please choose the white bread program. This is available with every machine, as it is a basic recipe, so to speak. Often they can then separately select the degree of browning. Usually there are three browning degrees (see photo on the left: Dark, Medium and Light).
Simply choose according to individual taste. For the beginning we would recommend “medium. Often these basic breads can also be prepared with the standard program on the bread baking machines. Just take a quick look at the operating instructions. However, with good vending machines they already have the white bread program on the display.
For example, if you have a recipe for a whole wheat bread, then select the appropriate whole wheat bread program.
Program the time when the bread is ready?
In high-quality models you have the possibility to program the baking process individually. For this you select the desired time when the bread should be ready. For example, the next morning at 7:30 a.m. The bread machine will then automatically start the baking program at the right time, so that you will have warm and crusty bread at 7:30 a.m. on the dot.
Step 6: Remove the bread from the baking pan
If the bread is baked then ready, then they must only take it out of the baking pan. To do this, open the lid, remove the baking pan from the breadmaker and tip it over. Most bread pans have a very good non-stick coating. The bread then slides out of the baking pan almost automatically with a little jogging. Let it cool down for a short time and your own bread is ready.
