Four of the leading non-new open source organizations have joined the OSPO Alliance with other partners, OSPO stands for Open Source Program Office. OW2, the Eclipse Foundation, Open Forum Europe and the Foundation for Public Code want to improve the visibility of the thematic complex Open Source in Europe in the context of this Allianz and use a structured and professional management of open source projects through companies and administrations.
Open Source in companies and administrations
The Alliance might pronounce realizable recommendations for the handling of comprehensive software and allow access to appropriate solutions. The prerequisite is the willingness to deal professionally with the aspects of use, participation and publication. For this purpose, the new Allianz companies should take on the topic Open Source so far that they can end up their own open source program office on the legs. The role of these OPOs is essential in non-technological areas such as education and public administration.
Based on the OW2 Good Governance Initiative, the OSPO Alliance also builds on a website with up-to-date information for companies, public institutions and research and educational institutions. The OSPO zone is to be the first contact point for OPOs and supporting community organizations.
The first steps to build own OSPOs
The still young Alliance offers interested members various options to get involved. For the construction of its own company-wide open source guidelines, the organization recommends that the requirements of the OW-Governance initiative to follow and set up its own OSPOs. Companies that have already established a corresponding program are called to contribute Case Studies to the best practices, which the new organization then over the OSPO.Can provide zone for all interested parties.
Further information on the alliance, your goals and opportunities for participation will gradually provide initiators on the platform.
