The visualization of the simultaneous

The ambitious "Synchronoptic world history" of the historian Arno Peters was reied

Sure, computers and networks can already be quite a lot. But ultimately it is always a simple idea that convinced us. Looking for such a simple idea was in the 40s in Germany of the historian Arno Peters. He wanted the "Totality of past events of general, aging importance", In short, represent the entire world history. And Peters found his idea that is as simple as ingenious: he gave the time and the happening a room representation. It came out at the beginning of the 50s, a book, better said a wonderful Atlas in the coarse of 27 cm x 32 cm – the "Synchronoptic world history".

Each century received a double page (50 cm x 32 cm), arranged chronologically from 3000 before Christ (the most important events of the previous period are treated extra). And the world events divided Peters into 5 rough fields: War Revolutions; politics Social order; world historical people; Art, Gasket, Law, Philosophy, Religion, Music City building; Economy, technology, science Community life; Everything in 6 different colors. The effect is blooming: suddenly lives Kleomedes (Greek naturalist) in the same epoch as Mark Aurel (Roman Emperor) and Montanus (Small Asian Priest). Thus, we were talking to us – at a glance – together between events and people of world history, because it becomes visible what happened at the same time.

This visualization of the simultaneous limited Peter but not on the well-known history fields and compartments – on the contrary. With the help of via 50 scientists from all knowledge areas – one "Who is Who" German postwar science – Peters made for the first time a universal historiography. In addition to the warrior racks and conquerors, the schopferic personnel, the inventors, thinkers and reformers, in addition to fieldgies and revolutions come into cultural, scientific or religious events, economic decisions and the things of everyday life: "1266- Germany loses Sicily to the Frenchman Karl von Anjou / Phagspa developed a Mongolian writing (Square)", After a year before the "Mongolian postal service for regular furnishings" became and tannenhauser the use of foreign ladies "as a scholarship" relate. In the same year, Ubwigens Dante was born, 1 year before Giotto and 5 years after Master Eckhart …

Because not all those who "Time" Came, could also be described there, such as "Phagspa", Peters has a few years later "Index band" (404 pages) with 10 000 (!) Biographies and short articles supplied! There we can read: "Phagspa (around 1225 N – around 1290 n) Mongolian scribe from Tibet. Advisor to the Emperor Kubblai-Khan for all cultural and religious questions (teachers of the empire) …" Certainly "Phagspa " not the only personality that will not be found in any other lexicon. This also distinguishes the "Synchronopse" Soothing of other lexical plants: a unike work has been introduced.

For the visibility of – partially unimaginable – together, there is probably no schooner and simultaneously easier example than the "Synchronoptic world history". Of course, the Web and the Hypertext are friendly pit nowadays. And certainly became a young Arno Peters who "Synchronopse" At the age of 25 began to start today on the web with such a project. Whether then – someday – a book became from it, you could see then.

As long as it is the "Synchronopse" does not exist on the web and in HTTL, we will probably have to be with the physical book ie. For too long, the "Synchronopse" not available at all, as that we were now stewed at this smallness. Which sent to the year 2000 "Time" And that – unfortunately not corrected – "Index band" have now been reprinted by the publisher and mail-order house two thousand and instead of a light blue with a flap-red linen cover (2 gangs, together DM 99, -).
