Volvo v60 plug-in hybrid: diesel and electric motor combined

Koln, 20. October 2011 – At the Geneva Motor Show in the spring year, he was still a study, in the coming year, the Volvo V60 plug-in hybrid should now go into production. The special feature: The Swedes have combined a diesel with an electric motor. This now offers only Peugeot. But the Volvo can also conform to energy at the socket.

Diesel front, e-motor rear

The front roller of the vehicle are driven by a funfzylinder turbodiesel with 2.4 liters capacity, 215 hp and 440 nm torque, which is also offered in the larger Volvo V70. The engine is combined with a six-speed automatic. Until then, the car meets the Volvo V60 D5 Geartronic. But the rear axle is driven by an electric motor with 51 kW and 200 nm. The batteries under the loading floor work with lithium-ion technology and store 12 kWh. Integrated is a computer that superimpose temperature and state of charge from each one of the 200 cells. A water compartment associated with the air conditioning of the vehicle is also integrated.

Together faster

With three buttons in the center console, the driving modes can be chosen pure, hybrid or power. In Pure mode, the car is purely electric, as long as it is possible – the range should be up to 50 kilometers. The second operating mode Hybrid represents the default mode and is activated during the vehicle startup. In the settings menu of the vehicle, the long of the planned route will be specified – short, medium or long. So the electronics can calculate the ideal balance of the two drive types. In power mode, the system is trimmed to optimal performance. Diesel and E-Motor together mobilize 285 hp and 640 nm. Thus, the Swede creates the standard sprint to 100 km / h in 6.9 seconds. For comparison: The V60 D5 Geartronic needs a slightly long with 7.7 seconds.
