A camera like the WB650 corresponds, at least in theory, quite exactly my ideas of a universal casual camera. She does not fall to the road on the way, yet offers a huge focal length range, pronounces great macro shots and can be fully controlled manually. The etch data of the WB650 awaken hope to let my SLR be more calmer at home in the future than before.
That the first steps with the WB650 partly reveal significant distance to the services of a SLR or system camera, however, is not entirely unexpected. Thus, the Amoled color monitor shows a pleasingly detailed and luminous playback of the subject. Sometimes, for light sunshine, I miss the visual viewfinder of my SLR but. Also, the operation of a SLR or system camera continues thanks to numerous special keys and rotary loaders mostly lackable river.
The fact that a mechanical rotation SLR lens can be controlled in default faster and praiser than any engine zoom, also lights up immediately. From the autofocus of the WB650, after many years of experience with SLRS and compact cameras from the outset, I do not expect any really competitive performance. As expected, the WB650 has much more likely to fight with weak ambient light or contrasted motives compared to the SLR. Each of the four problems mentioned above, however, was as mentioned in fact. A compact camera is just, partly very much to its advantage, really no SLR.
In a very important point, the exposure control, the WB650 delivers, for example, quite competitive results. Even motives of untypical brightness distribution, for example, with amongwhile light or dark flat, the Samsung brings almost always harmoniously into the picture. Only a series of deliberately convenient counter light recordings has shown the limits of the automatic on the basis of significantly underexposed foreground elements. Here, however, the WB650 does not distinguish from the Gros of all the above-up cameras, also my IXUS and the EOS 40D fail in such situations reliable. Therefore, in practice, I reach reflexibly to the exposure compensation, on my IXUS I use the freely assignable "Print"-button.
The WB650 does not provide configurable buttons, the path for exposure compensation continues comparatively residently via Via "FN"-Button reachable quickmenu. The flash exposure compensation is even accessible via the main menu of the WB650, also allows only a correction of + -1 LW in increments of half a LW. Both defect could probably be easily corrected with a firmware update. A 2 lw comprehensive, over the fast menu accessible flash performance correction is at least very welcome.
ISO series in detail
The test motif uses simple means, letting smoothness effects of the camera-internal noise reduction and remaining noise but still recognize well
As already at the NX5, I also encountered a pair of embarrassing composition error at the WB650. Especially progressed I found the confusion of "Diaphragm" with "Diaphragm" In the screen texts of the camera. A photographer of insignificant, for beginners, but generally confusing mistakes. In conjunction with the manual as far as the NX5 part, only the recommendation to Samsung remains to be used, urgent better translation services.
The right lower corner of the back side of a 10- € certificate, photographed with a small possible pickup distance and a 1: 1 section of the photo. In the middle of the picture, the macro recordings of the WB650 show a very ordinary detail drawing
There is nothing essential to suspend the wrongly labeled exposure functions itself. The aperture can even be controlled, by no means typical of compact cameras, in a total of four light values in a total of four light values. Why for the settings of the shutter speed only one increment of half a LW is available, in turn remains a secret of product developers. The coarse shutter exchanges in wide-angle position f / 3.2, which thus recoverable sharp separation of front and background remains because of small 1 / 2.3"-However, sensors very limited.
Even with macro shots, blurred only weakly comes into the picture, this effect can be welcome in contrast to portraits but quite welcome. With a marginal limit of only three centimeters, the WB650 allows impressive macrobers, the smallest diagonal amounts to 3.1 centimeters. Who completely exhausted the marginalize, but must accept significant directory. Where not the complete resolution of the WB650 is needed, I hold a slightly coarse recording distance and cutting crops on the desired subject matter for more meaningful.
night and Fog
Many of my privately recorded pictures arise in the evening, so often under rather difficult lighting conditions. With a maximum sensitivity of ISO 3200 and an optical image stabilization realized by sensor-shifting, the WB650 could theoretically master such situations theoretically. The already mentioned weak of the AF at low ambient light and the considerable noise proportion of sensitivities over ISO 800, however, the lowlight photography set narrow limits.
For occasional snapshuses I like to use the ISO maximum level of the WB650, at least at home, but much more of my SLR is used in the evening. The images of the WB650 recorded with low ISO rates also fall compared to the SLR back, especially with regard to the contrast circumference. Many of the test photos taken in light sunlight show, with basic correct exposure of the relevant image content, strongly feasible lights.
